TechCrunch's Michael Arrington is reporting that rumors beginning to float around the blogosphere are stating that Apple is interested in purchasing Twitter for US$700 million in cash. Twitter, in case you've been off of the planet for the last two years, is the magical "social networking" tool that has you answer the question "What am I doing right now?" in 140 characters or less.
Twitter currently has more than 25 million users, and it is rumored that growth has been exploding since Oprah blessed the service with her presence in mid-April. However, despite the size and growth potential of Twitter, there's simply no compelling reason for Apple to spend part of its huge cash reserves to purchase the company.Google recently tried to purchase Twitter, but was turned down by Twitter's CEO Evan Williams. Today's rumor comes from a "normally reliable source" who told Arrington that "Apple is in late-stage negotiations to buy Twitter and is hoping to announce it at WWDC in June."Despite the popularity of Twitter, the service hasn't figured out a way to make a profit, and is strictly powered by venture capital at this point. Can any TUAW readers think of a reason why Apple should buy Twitter? Leave me a comment!

Adding Tweet This Button
Twitter is among the most popular micro-blogging platform. Sharing something on Twitter is sometimes called "Tweet this" and is used to share a link to news, blog post or anything else you wanna share with your followers.

Putting a "Tweet this" button on your blog post makes it easy for your blog visitors to share your posts on twitter. Which in turn brings traffic to your blog. How much traffic it brings depends on how popular the person is and how many people follow his/her tweets. But it is always a good idea to make it easy for your blog visitors.
I searched for this kind of code I can insert in my Blogger template but couldn't find any help. I am not exactly a web developer but know how to tweak the code to make it work. So after doing some trial and error, I can say, if you add the following code to your blogger template you can get "Tweet this" on your Blogger blog too:
A little explanation for the highlighted part of the code:

Replace YOURTwitterUSERNAME with your twitter user name, if you wanna track and see who is sharing your blog posts. Otherwise simply delete @YOURTwitterUSERNAME.
Replace the image URL http://LINK TO TWITTER IMAGE ON YOUR SERVER by the link for twitter image on your server.
I have added 'Reading' before the twitter status, if you want you can change/remove it.
Now add the resulting code to your blogger template. Which should be copied in the footer.

More than just email
Though few of us may have noticed it several years ago, it turns out there is a whole wealth of information people want to share for which email is not suitable. Had a great conversation with a friend? Come across a quote that you want to share? Found a really cool website? Going to visit San Francisco and wondering what events are happening . . . all these are not likely suitable as an email to friends or even a blog post, but perfect for a tweet. Indeed, some of us may even have asked ourselves, “What did people do with such information before Twitter?”
Email will not likely cease, but more people are realizing that much of the content they want to share fits in two categories: 1) it can be expressed in few words, and 2) it’s information that they are happy to make public. In this age of “open conversations” and the “free sharing of information” Twitter allows for the sharing of content – both that we create and that we find — much more than email.
